Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day! The economic and environmental policies of the past are unsustainable. In 2010, young Americans must stand up and demand sustainable employment and environmental protection. The future belongs to us, but we must Take Action to prove ourselves as the leaders of the next generation.

These are the policy planks of our 2010 Youth Agenda:

Green Jobs - Local Jobs for America Act & Youth Jobs Act
Clean Cities -
The Clean Air Act
Safe Streets -
The Youth PROMISE Act
Despite overwhelming support for new jobs creation, young people are still being left out of the employment equation. Now that the Summer jobs bill has been defeated, we need to kick back and fight for strong summer job initiatives, on the job training and new energy legislation that will open up the green market place to our young and growing workforce. Clean Air! This act protects us from industrial pollution and regulates our air and water, but corporate lobbyists are trying to kill the Clean Air act. Clean air means clean lungs - asthma, allergies and cancer are already on the rise, and fighting for the Clean Air Act keeps our communities healthy. Why do we focus on incarceration instead of rehabilitation? Many of the 2.2 million people in federal and state prisons are non violent youth and youth of color. We must all commit to breaking the cradle-to-prison pipeline by giving our cities local resources to come up with local solutions to our crime and violence problems.

The future of our country lies in the hands of the young men and women who are right now transitioning into the voter age and working population. We can either get involved now or pay the piper later - these issues are not going away.
